“magicJack vs. Vonage and Skype”
Internet phone service, or VoIP (voice over internet protocol) is changing telecommunications, and magicJack is leading the pack. Many of our Resellers have come to us with questions from their customers asking what the difference is between magicJack and other VoIP services such as Vonage and Skype. A recent article in US News & World Report, appropriately titled, “Look out, Vonage. Here Comes magicJack” details the exceptional affordability, functionality, and expansive network of magicJack vs. Vonage. Here’s a quote:
“Another upstart has crashed into the world of telephones, selling calls so cheaply it would seem no incumbent can compete… ‘We're now the largest telephone company out there,’ Borislow boasts... He's referring to magicJack's availability in all 50 states, with phone numbers offered in about 80 percent of area codes—claims that even AT&T can't make.”
-Skype, is a basic phone service that works on VoIP. However, with Skype you make your calls from a microphone and headset connected to your PC. The calls are free if you call from Skype to Skype. But, if you want to call a regular landline phone, you'll have to buy Skype credits, which are not cheap! Many people question Skype’s sound quality.
-Vonage is also a VoIP service. The difference is that you have to connect a bulky Vonage device between your internet provider's modem and your regular landline telephone. And, yes, there is a monthly fee associated with Vonage, as high, if not more, than some of your current traditional call service providers. (Vonage monthly fees run $20-$30 per month or more!)

Q: How can I make calls on my magicJack when I am traveling internationally?
A: You need access to a computer (or your own laptop) and high speed internet (WiFi, DSL, Broadband, Cable etc.). Just plug your magicJack into the USB port as you normally would, and plug any telephone into the other side of the magicJack. (Many people carry a small phone with them or use a hotel phone. You can also use the headset from your computer.)
It’s that simple! Your magicJack should be ready to make free calls to any phone in the US or Canada within seconds. If you are calling anyone else in the world with a magicJack, the call is free. People in the US can call you on your magicJack number at the prevailing US-to-US rate regardless of where in the world you are with your magicJack. If you wish to call a country other than the US or Canada, you can do so by taking advantage of the low international rates provided by magicJack.
